Personal Platform - Mirage

“What do you do with your personal items when you enter or leave your home?” Conduct ethnographic research regarding this question, to determine the requirements for the design. The furniture piece should accommodate all the items carried by the persona also considering his/her behaviour It should be fastened to the wall and it should also have an ambient light source. It should be the first light you “switch on or off”, when returning or departing. Because the furniture would be in an entrance way it should make a lasting first impression and show personality. The designs main material that it is made of should be sheet metal.
Ethnographic research was conducted of different house entrances and their layouts, what the interviewees carried with them to and from their home with deeper focus placed on items that is important to them and what items they forget.
A persona was then drawn from the batch of information that was gathered from all the interviewees.
The design references that were used was patterns and tessellations of M.C. Escher and Ndebele Patterns.
How references were drawn is the white areas with contrasting colours to it from the Ndebele patterns; the way that the patterns and tessellations of M.C. Escher were used in the simplicity with geometry to create interconnecting pieces.
High fidelity Prototype
The interactive personal platform reminds you to remember your notebook the most important item (for persona) and thus the infinity mirror will only turn off if you take your notebook that is magnetically connected to the platform and to the on/off switch.
